Rutgers Formula Racing Crowdfunding 2018 Season

Who Are We?

The team after taking 3rd place at the 2017 Pittsburgh Shootout

Rutgers Formula Racing is a team of Rutgers students from many different backgrounds who share a passion for hands-on learning, engineering, and real work experience. We independently design, build, market, finance, and manage the production of a Formula SAE racecar each year. We compete in design, business, and racing against other universities and institutes from around the world!

Composed of a design, business, and administrative team, Rutgers Formula Racing models itself like a tech start-up. Run almost entirely by students, RFR provides members with the opportunity to gain experience with industry standard design and simulation software, manufacturing process technology, and advanced skills in project management. The design team is made up of several subteams including aerodynamics, brakes and controls, chassis, drivetrain, electronics, powertrain, and suspension.

Transforming our SolidWorks files, speadsheets, and calculations into a competitive racecar requires a great deal of investment. Not only does it demand the tireless effort of our members, it also requires a great deal of monetary support. Our efforts would never see reality if it weren’t for the generosity of our sponsors and our donors.

What is Formula SAE?

FSAE Michigan Event Photo

Formula SAE is a collegiate racing competition for engineering and business students organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International). SAE International is the world’s coalition of executives and engineers from automotive and aerospace industries.

Hundreds of universities from around the world, including Rutgers University, compete in annual Formula SAE competitions that are held all over the globe.

Rutgers Formula Racing regularly attends North America's largest competition, FSAE Michigan at MIS. We’ve also competed at Formula North in Ontario and in Lincoln, Nebraska. During each week-long competition, teams hustle for fast lap times, defend their engineering and business decisions before judges, and impress potential corporate sponsorships. Members also gain opportunities to network and interview for jobs with dream companies like Bosch, Ford, Toyota, Denso, MathWorks, Spacex and many more!

Each of us at Rutgers Formula Racing is united by our passion for engineering and hands-on learning. Since 1989, we at Rutgers Formula Racing have prided ourselves in being able to represent our university on the international stage. RFR has made a difference and continues to make a difference in students’ professional development. By investing in Rutgers Formula Racing, you invest directly in Rutgers students.

Outreach and Professional Relations

Rutgers Formula Racing at the 2017 New York International Auto Show

The team has relationships with many professional organizations all started and maintained by team members. RFR is very proud to represent Nissan of North America as our exclusive automotive sponsor. RFR is also sponsored by Jaktool, Precision Shape Solutions, and KWG, all of whom contribute significantly to our team every year.

The team regularly brings the car to many amazing events throughout the year. In addition to representing Rutgers at every major recruiting event, we also attend many professional events as well. RFR consistently travels to visit the companies that support us, bringing along the car to show them how their contribution made a difference. RFR is also closely aligned with SAE, regularly exposing us to previous Formula SAE members in industry.

Every year, the team takes the car out to the New York International Auto Show to unveil that years' model. On the third floor, team members are able to represent the team. In addition to the thousands in the general public, the team also interacts with many industry professionals attending the show. RFR is no stranger to local events, such as cars and coffee, demonstrations for aspiring engineers, and local motorsports events.
