Rutgers Formula Racing 2016 - 2017

RFR is Rutgers University's Formula SAE team. In Formula SAE, university students are the race car engineers, builders, team managers, and drivers. We seek your support!

To learn more and meet current members and alumni, feel free to visit our renovated team website, follow us on Facebook or Instagram, and visit our work space on campus!

(If you are interested in being a part of RFR's separate sponsorship program, please email the team: rutgerssae@gmail.com)

Over 120 university teams from around the world compete in engineering, business, and racing at annual Formula SAE competitions. This year, the team will compete at FSAE Michigan, North America's largest competition, and Formula North. Our organization's start-up approach, advanced STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) applications, and academic influence gain support from companies like Solidworks, 3M, Sunoco, and Yamaha. The team prepares students for research and work in technology industries and academia; members have worked at companies like Lockheed-Martin, Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles, Ford Motor Company, Pratt & Whitney, and many more. We have even displayed at the New York International Auto Show, Rutgers Day, and the New Jersey Governor’s School for Engineering and Technology. With additional resources, we anticipate even more outreach to other schools, STEM competitions, and automotive events.

Last year, your donations helped us create Rutgers University’s most advanced FSAE race car: RFR 16 (pictured above). Better yet, we are preparing to create the all-new, even greater RFR 17! But between annual competition and design rule changes and an entire season of extreme wear and tear on our last car, RFR 17 requires new major components--like wheels, tires, chassis tubes, carbon fiber, and engine parts--that need to be redesigned or replenished, manufactured, and paid for.

When we are not researching and designing the next car--or doing homework and studying for exams--we try to reach annual financial targets by connecting with potential sponsors and working as much as 20 hours a week in concession stands for Rutgers football games and major music festivals. Your contribution will help pay for the major parts of RFR 17 and allocate more time towards research, design, public outreach, and long-term related academic programs. In turn, the team will be able to create a faster car, expand professional resources, use more of the latest engineering and business tools, and compete in more competitions!

People everywhere were touched by our nearly 28 year-old tradition of independently and voluntarily creating race cars whose performance rivaled full-size production sports cars. There are currently no academic credit incentives or prerequisites to be involved; we only thrive off of passion for technological challenges, creativity, teamwork, personal development, and beautiful machines. RFR strives to continue growing this team, innovating engineering designs, providing professional resources, and representing Rutgers University in competitive applied academics. Your donation will help us continue our tradition!

We appreciate your interest in our cause, and encourage you to both donate to our program and connect with the team!
