Growing Great Writers 2019
Growing Great Writers is a mobile out-of-school-time creative writing club for Camden students in grades 4 and up, staffed by Rutgers-Camden graduate students in English and Creative Writing. We partner with after-school sites at schools and community centers to deliver a club programming that supports English/Language Arts classroom skills while emphasizing that reading and writing can be joyful, meaningful activities that build confidence. Taught with love and attention, we believe great readers and writers become great citizens.
Teaching artists plan a semester-long or year-long curriculum that introduces students to topics in writing poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, comics, and more. During each session, students participate in a writing warm-up and main prompt that allows them to use new skills while stretching their imaginations. To date, our program has partnered with Camden Ignite sites at Dudley Family School and Cooper's Poynt, the Salvation Army Kroc Center, and St. Anthony of Padua.
Your gift helps support the sustainability and growth of this program, whether by compensating teaching artists for their hard work, helping us purchase books and materials, making it possible for young writers to publish or perform their work at the end of the year, or allowing us to respond to requests for partnership from new partner sites in Camden.
Help us unlock the silly and serious writing imaginations of Camden kids!
