What is Giving Tuesday?
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.
Celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the season of giving. This year, #GivingTuesday is on December 3, 2019.
Why should I give to Rutgers on #GivingTuesday?
This year, alumni, donors, friends, students, faculty and staff can take a stand to stop student hunger. We are using this day to raise awareness about student food insecurity. In recent months, the university’s Board of Trustees has committed financial support to struggling students and the campus food pantries that assist them.
When you make a gift on December 3, you can support the Rutgers student food pantries, which provide groceries, toiletries, and support for when students are struggling to stay afloat.
What is food insecurity?
Food insecurity is the lack of reliable access to healthy, frequent meals. Approximately 1.4 million college students choose between paying for food and education each year nationwide. At Rutgers, one in three students experience food insecurity at some point during college. Without dependable access to a sufficient quality of affordable, nutritious food, it is difficult for students to thrive.
When students experience food insecurity, they can turn to the Rutgers student food pantries for help.
Where are the Rutgers student food pantries?
Students from any of the schools at Rutgers can visit the food pantries most convenient to them.
