Giving Tuesday - A Global Movement

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

At Rutgers–Newark, you can fill a plate and feed a mind for Giving Tuesday in support of the PantryRUN!

Student Hunger in the US

Studies indicate that students across a broad spectrum of higher education institutions worry about finding their next meal, and the pandemic has only worsened the problem of food insecurity. Essex County, the home to many of our students, has the highest food insecurity rate in New Jersey. Nationwide, there has been a rapid growth in food insecurity as a result of COVID-19. Many Rutgers University–Newark students are in high-risk groups for food insecurity, including first-generation students, students of color, and working students.

The resulting hunger can threaten their ability to succeed. Throughout the month, your support can make a difference in the lives of students facing food insecurity at Rutgers–Newark. Your gifts will support the PantryRUN, the on-campus food pantry, which provides access to groceries and toiletries for students in need of a helping hand.

This Month, Join in and Stop Student Hunger

Thank you for your interest in supporting the Rutgers food pantries. While #GivingTuesday is over, you can support students year round at our website: support.rutgers.edu . Thank you for your helping to fill a plate and feed a mind.

Nearly half of all college student students worry about how they will afford their next meal. Food insecurity, or unreliable access to nutritious meals, is a growing problem on college campuses, especially as students and their families recover from the effects of the pandemic. At Rutgers University–Newark, students can turn to the PantryRUN for support. This month, we’re turning to you.
