Giving Tuesday - A Global Movement

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

At Rutgers University, you can fill a plate and feed a mind for Giving Tuesday in support of our on-campus student food pantries.

Student Hunger in the US

Nearly half of college students worry about how they will afford their next meal. Studies indicate that students across a broad spectrum of higher education institutions worry about finding their next meal, and the pandemic has only worsened the problem of food insecurity. Food insecurity is defined as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live a healthy life. To combat it, food pantries across Rutgers provide students with thousands of meals each semester.

Join us for Giving Tuesday and Stop Student Hunger

Thank you for your interest in supporting the Rutgers food pantries. While #GivingTuesday is over, you can support students year round at our website: support.rutgers.edu . Thank you for your helping to fill a plate and feed a mind.

Today, Giving Tuesday, join a global day of giving where generous donors around the globe come together to support meaningful causes. At Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), that means we’re joining in to stop student hunger!

At RBHS, a quarter of our students worry about how they will afford their next meal, a situation that was only worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Food insecurity, or unreliable access to nutritious meals, is a growing problem on college campuses, especially as students and their families recover from the effects of the pandemic. Insufficient access to nutritious food adversely affects not only physical and mental health but can reduce the likelihood of participating in learning activities. At RBHS, students can now turn to the RBHS Student Food Pantry for support. Today, we’re turning to you.

Make your Giving Tuesday gift in support of the Hunger and Health Security Fund, which supports the RBHS Student Food Pantry today!

About RBHS Food Pantry

This fall, the RBHS Food Pantry opened its doors to students. Starting November 2, the RBHS Food Pantry will offer 150 prepared meals on a first-come, first-served basis each Tuesday through January 15, 2022 (except December 28).

The pantry will provide non-perishable food items like cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, tuna and canned meat, pasta, dried beans, and more. Your support for Giving Tuesday will help fulfill and expand this mission at RBHS.
